She has been a certified registered nurse anesthetist at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center for 26 years. A native of the Philippines, she earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Manila Central University. Arriving in the United States as a registered nurse, she went to Mount Sinai hospital in New York for advanced respirator study. There it was suggested she take a course in anesthesia.
