On a cue from an air horn, about 100 men and woman passing
through Daley Plaza fell down and played dead at 9:02 a.m. Monday.
Briefcases and morning newspapers lay on the pavement next to the
motionless bodies, mostly dressed in office attire. A couple of
bicycles lay beside their riders, whose commutes had been
mysteriously interrupted.
At 9:34 a.m., performance artist Mathew Wilson sounded a second
blast and his performers, students from Columbia College and the
School of the Art Institute, arose and departed at random as if
nothing had happened.
