Article: Companies Love `Miserere' // Chorus, Lyric Sing Gorecki's Praises

The mighty forces of the Chicago Symphony Chorus and the Lyric Opera of Chicago Chorus united for a soaring rendition of Henryk Mikolaj Gorecki's "Miserere" Sunday in the celestial surroundings of St. Mary of the Angels Church, 1850 N. Hermitage.

With Gorecki in attendance, the combined choruses (working together for the first time) performed a deeply moving "Miserere," shaped with grace and care by conductor John Nelson.

Gorecki's unaccompanied choral work was composed in 1981, commemorating the first police violence against the Solidarity movement in Poland. The controversial work was not performed until 1987.
