Article: Adoptive Parents Urged To End Fight Over Boy

The adoptive parents of "Baby Richard" should drop plans to appeal the Illinois Supreme Court ruling awarding custody of the 3-year-old boy to his natural father, the father's attorney said Thursday.

The court ruled unanimously last week that the father, Otakar Kirchner, had been "denied knowledge of his baby's existence" and ordered that the child, called "Baby Richard" in court documents, be given to him.

The boy's adoptive parents are asking the court to reconsider the order.

"I was hoping the adoptive parents would see the handwriting on the wall after the unanimous decision," attorney Loren L. Heinemann said. "They are saying it will be hard on them. It will be hard on Otakar. ...
