Article: `Baby Richard' Rally Backs Adoptive Parents

About 100 people rallied in the Loop on Friday in support of "Baby Richard," urging the state's Supreme Court to keep the 3-year-old boy with his adoptive parents.

"Baby Richard has a home," Theresa Bernal, a friend of the adoptive parents, told the crowd.

On June 16, a unanimous Supreme Court ordered the boy returned to his biological parents, Daniella and Otakar Kirchner. The boy was born on March 16, 1991, and has been with his adoptive parents since he was 4 days old.

The adoptive parents are known only as "John and Jane Doe." The DeBoer Committee for Children's Rights sponsored Friday's rally outside the James R. Thompson Center.
