Mirroring this year's ACT results, the SAT program, the nation's
other big tester of college-bound students, is reporting today that
girls are taking strides toward gender equity in math.
The SAT (Scholastic Assessment Test) results also show boys are
slipping.
Nationally, girls improved their scores a point on the test's
verbal section and three points on math. Boys' scores, meanwhile,
fell three points on the verbal section and one point in math.
Donald M. Stewart, president of the College Board, which
produces the SAT, noted women are still a minority in math and
science classes, but the percentage taking pre-calculus, calculus and
physics is growing.
