The reader is warned by that first sentence: This vaunted autobiography picks and chooses what it wants to talk about; it never justifies its own mythic subtitle; and it does not help us understand why or how Brando has been the actor most admired by other actors - let alone audiences. Instead there's a kind of undertone of complaint - Why are you making me do this?
