To win a state championship a team must play 14 games. This
weekend is the seventh week of football.
For the top two teams, it's halftime. For others, two-thirds of
the season is over. Which means the season comes down to a
third-and-short situation.
Many players and teams already have made impacts above
expectations. Here are some early highlights.
Biggest surprise: Brother Rice (6-0, 2-0 in the Catholic North) with
honorable mention to St. Patrick (6-0, 4-0 in the East Suburban
Catholic) and West Aurora (6-0, 5-0 in the Upstate Eight).
Brother Rice knows crunch time, winning two games by one point
