Kevin Kennedy was fired in Texas, but hired in Boston by his former Montreal general manager, Dan Duquette.

Bob Boone had never managed in the big leagues, but was hired in Kansas City by his former teammate; and now assistant general manager, George Brett.

And, in Chicago, Jim Riggleman was hired over Tony Muser as Cubs manager by his former farm director in San Diego, Ed Lynch.
