Sometimes in baseball, it's not what you know, it's who you
know.
Just look at the managerial menagerie of the last few days.
Johnny Oates was fired in Baltimore, but hired in Texas by his
former Orioles assistant general manager, Doug Melvin.
Kevin Kennedy was fired in Texas, but hired in Boston by his
former Montreal general manager, Dan Duquette.
Bob Boone had never managed in the big leagues, but was hired in
Kansas City by his former teammate; and now assistant general
manager, George Brett.
And, in Chicago, Jim Riggleman was hired over Tony Muser as Cubs
manager by his former farm director in San Diego, Ed Lynch.
