Last week, this nosy, mandatory questionnaire arrived in the office mail from a boss: How did I get to work? How long was the trip? How far? What buses and trains could I have taken?

Hey, I said (to myself), whose damn business is it how I get to work? All that should matter is that I present myself on time, do a good job and clear out. Just who the hell thinks he should care if I drive, carpool, walk or crawl to work?

The answer, of course, is the Washington politicians and environmental zealots who think they can make our commuting decisions for us. Well, not actually they. They're going to force our employers to decide for us. Which isn't exactly fair for the employers either, but ...
