Article: Britain Backs Joint Strike Fighter Effort

The British government agreed yesterday to commit $2 billion to help develop the Joint Strike Fighter, endorsing the warplane program with its checkbook just as the incoming Bush administration prepares to consider making cuts.

Praising the program for everything from boosting both nations' industrial bases to improving cooperation within NATO, Liz Symons, Britain's weapons procurement minister, said the Joint Strike Fighter is "a very important step forward in the relationship between our two countries."
