Article: Brother Rice Basketball Goes `Mad'

It's five minutes to midnight Sunday night, but the parking lot at Brother Rice is full, the gym is crowded and Brother Rice mascot Matt Thurn, a guy who looks like he's going to have a lot of fun in college, is in midseason form.

In full dress as the Brother Rice Crusader, Thurn hurls himself into the crowd of Brother Rice students, who pass him up the stands and then back down again, where a group of hearty fans hold him over their heads and carry him onto the court, the crowd of more than 600 cheering wildly.

The high school basketball season can now begin.
