Article: Love 'em or Hate 'em, But You Can't Ignore Anchovies

Forget about political ideologies, religious beliefs and hair color. The world is divided into two camps: those who love anchovies and those who would rather eat library paste.

Asking people to justify their allegiance sheds little light on these wee fishes. Those who loathe anchovies say, "I hate them for their fishiness, their oiliness, their abject ugliness." Those who adore them say, "I love them for their fishiness and their oiliness, despite their abject ugliness."

Even devotees of pizza parlors don't automatically request anchovies. A recent quick survey of five pizza establishments in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C., area ranked anchovies as the least favorite topping.
