Article: Dining Room Still a Must // Builders Find Its Popularity Remains Intact

Despite reports on the imminent demise of the family and trends toward more casual plate-in-your-lap dining, the formal dining room remains one of the most important rooms in new homes in all price ranges.

A random survey of both production and custom builders in the Chicago area reveals that the dining room is right up there with the flag, apple pie and mom as one of the untouchable icons builders ignore at their peril.

"Any builder who says dining rooms aren't important just hasn't been listening to his customers," said Siobhan Wallner, marketing administrator for the Illinois division of Centex Homes.
