A proposed plan to build a new $645 million Cook County Hospital
is in the hands of a state board, which is expected to meet here
Thursday and decide its fate.
Whether the county gets a permit to begin construction of the
hospital is up to the Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board. The
panel is expected to meet at 9 a.m. at the Executive Plaza, 71 E.
Wacker, county officials said.
The plan calls for a 464-bed facility that could take up to
seven years to build. It would replace the 82-year-old County
Hospital on the West Side, a facility made up of 13 buildings with
918 beds.
