Article: Faubus a Symbol Of Nation's Fight Over Integration

CONWAY, Ark. The body of former Arkansas Gov. Orval E. Faubus, a man who was born in backwoods poverty and had no more than a grade school education, lay in state in the last week in the state Capitol rotunda.

Scores of people, black and white, filed past.

Among them was Chuck Lang, who said he met Mr. Faubus in 1963 when he was selected as an Eagle Scout to give a speech at the Capitol, and forgot his words in the middle of his address.

Mr. Faubus "came out to talk to me. He tracked me down and said, `I forget speeches, too. You did a great job,' " Lang said. "I just had to see him one more time."
