One of the ways the Environmental Protection Agency is reducing
pollution in urban areas is by mandating the use of "reformulated
gasolines."
A reformulated gasoline is one that contains oxygenates and that
complies with federal limits set on volatility and maximum amounts of
benzine content.
In plain English, an oxygenate is either enthanol or an ether,
blended with the gasoline. Most cars built since the early 1980s are
designed to run on such blends, although using them may reduce fuel
economy by 1 percent to 3 percent.
On a more positive note, cars running on reformulated gas will
