Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy, 104, the mother of the 35th president of the United States and the matriarch of the Kennedy political dynasty, died Sunday at 104.

Mrs. Kennedy died at the Kennedy family home in Hyannisport Mass., of complications from pneumonia, a family statement said.

The center of Mrs. Kennedy's life was her family and the Roman Catholic Church. Her career was her nine children, and she devoted herself to them with the energy of someone schooled in the tradition that being a wife and mother is a woman's highest calling.
