Article: City Moves Into Age of Recycling // Apartments Start Plan; Blue Bags a Bust?

Recycling newspapers, metal cans, glass jars and plastic containers, a practice already well-established in the suburbs, is now required of some - but not all - Chicagoans.

Under a new city ordinance all residential buildings of more than four units, including condominiums and cooperatives who contract for private waste hauling service, are required to recycle these materials.

Building owners and managers are expected to have a written plan for recycling at least 12 percent of their tenants' waste. However, the law does not mandate a particular method of recycling.
