Article: Grant Pk. Fest Opens June 17

The Grant Park Music Festival kicks off its 61st season in gala fashion June 17 with American mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade singing Mozart, Massenet, Berlioz, Offenbach and show tunes with Canadian conductor Mario Bernardi conducting the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra.

Hugh Wolff, the Grant Park Symphony's principal conductor, and the festival's new general director, James Palermo, were on hand Monday at a news conference announcing this year's season of free concerts sponsored by the Chicago Park District at the Petrillo Music Shell, Jackson and Columbus.
