PITTSBURGH The Cubs took a weight-and-see attitude when they
signed Jaime Navarro as a free agent. They were taking a chance
Navarro was worth $800,000 pound-for-pound.
So far, so good.
Navarro struck out a career-high eight batters in seven innings
Saturday night and also threw in a double in a 13-5 romp over the
Pirates.
The Cubs had great production from the top of their order, where
Brian McRae and Rey Sanchez each scored three times.
Further, Shawon Dunston and Jose Hernandez combined for a home
run (by Hernandez), two doubles, a single and three runs batted in.
