PITTSBURGH The Cubs took a weight-and-see attitude when they signed Jaime Navarro as a free agent. They were taking a chance Navarro was worth $800,000 pound-for-pound.

So far, so good.

Navarro struck out a career-high eight batters in seven innings Saturday night and also threw in a double in a 13-5 romp over the Pirates.

The Cubs had great production from the top of their order, where Brian McRae and Rey Sanchez each scored three times.
