Article: An `Open Hand' to AIDS Patients Brings a Salute

Greg Harris and nine of his friends made a promise to themselves
seven years ago: They vowed that no one in Chicago would go to bed
hungry "just because they had AIDS."
And today, no one they know does.
Through Open Hand Chicago, a nonprofit organization that Harris
helped found, about 1,500 Chicagoans living with AIDS get free meals
five days a week.
And anyone with AIDS who needs food during the week - and calls
Open Hand by noon - will have food on the table that night, said
Harris.
That's why Open Hand is about to be recognized. The
organization will be honored today with the Sara Lee Foundation's
Chicago Spirit Award. The $50,000 award is given each year to a
nonprofit agency ...
