GETTING THERE: You can get to the middle of Dorset by BritRail, from
Waterloo Station in London, in less than 2 1/2 hours, but go by car
if possible. Dorset tends to wander, and some of its more delightful
roads are accessible only by car or by foot.
ACCOMMODATIONS: They range from bed and breakfasts from about $35 a
night (depending on the dollar-to-pound rate) to country inn-manor
houses, which can go from $120 (single), half board, to $400 double.
Two country-house hotels which are recommended:
Summer Lodge, Summer Lane, Evershot, Dorset DT2 OJR, Telephone:

Stock Hill Country House Hotel, Gillingham, Dorset SP8 5NR,
