Indians 2 Sox 1 CLEVELAND His pitching was nearly impeccable,
precisely what is expected from a player who must come up big when
needed the most.
But his throwing couldn't have been worse.
Alex Fernandez dominated for eight innings, only to toss the
game away when his error enabled the Cleveland Indians to slip past
the White Sox 2-1 on Tuesday at Jacobs Field.
The front-running Indians have won the first two of a crucial
four-game series and, with a nine-game lead over the Sox, are
threatening to be out of reach well before the All-Star break.
"We came in wanting to make a dent in their lead," Sox manager
Gene Lamont said. "We sure as hell don't want to go out in worse
