Article: Big Jump for Thornton's Ely After Impressive ABCD Camp

Talent scout Bob Gibbons' list of the top 33 junior basketball
prospects in the nation, published before this month's camp
competition, didn't include Thornton's 6-9 Melvin Ely.
But you can bet Gibbons will readjust his ratings after reports
come in from the Adidas ABCD camp at Teaneck, N.J. Gibbons evaluated
players at the Nike camp in Indianapolis earlier this week, but
didn't observe Ely at the New Jersey event.
According to Chicago-based talent scout Larry Butler, who
attended the ABCD camp, Ely has emerged as one of the top 10 junior
prospects in the nation - "maybe even the top five," Butler said.
