Five of the city's more prominent African-American Democrats are
refusing to support Circuit Court Clerk Aurelia M. Pucinski's bid for
a third term.
Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun (D-Ill.), Rep. Bobby L. Rush, Illinois
Senate Minority Leader Emil Jones, Cook County Board President John
H. Stroger and Cook County Recorder of Deeds Jesse C. White were
approached by Pucinski and invited to serve on her executive
committee. All five declined.
Pucinski is seeking to build bridges to the African-American
community in the wake of her bitter 1994 Democratic primary contest
with Stroger for the Cook County Board presidency. In that campaign,
