North Dakota. The two words conjure up . . . well, actually,
they don't conjure up much of anything, do they?
"It's not the place with the faces in the side of the mountain,"
said Gov. Ed Schafer, formerly of New York City, when asked the one
fact people should know about his state.
That's a start, but there are many other salient items about
North Dakota that stand out:
Famous North Dakotans. Admission to the state's own Rough Riders
Hall of Fame is "the highest honor a North Dakotan can achieve,"
according to state capitol tour guide and lifelong North Dakotan
Beverly Schlenker.
The hall - basically a row of paintings and plaques in a state
capitol hallway - has honored local ...
