You thought redoing your kitchen was a headache? Welcome to the
ultimate rehab, the $105 million overhaul and expansion of Orchestra
Hall.
Presumably, plaster dust that began accumulating in mid-May when
work crews moved into Orchestra Hall to start the 2 1/2-year project
will be gone when the Chicago Symphony Orchestra opens its 105th
season at 8 p.m. Saturday. Georg Solti, music director laureate,
will be on the podium, conducting a program of Brahms and
Shostakovich.
From the audience's vantage point, Orchestra Hall will not look
much different than ...
