Article: Cincinnati Revives German Street Names

CINCINNATI It used to be called Bremen Street, after the port from which many Germans had sailed for America. Then it was changed to Republic Street during World War I. Now it could be known as Bremen Street again to reflect a rebirth in pride of the city's German heritage.

Nearly 80 years after the City Council passed an ordinance to rename German-sounding streets, the panel will vote on approving a plan Wednesday to install signs with the original names of 12 streets underneath the current ones.

The vote coincides with Cincinnati's annual Oktoberfest, one of the largest outside Germany.
