Article: Eureka! High School Bans Saucy Chaucer

National Banned Books Week won't start until Saturday.

But Downstate Eureka saw no reason to wait.

The school board has ordered a high school teacher to stop teaching Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales.

A few parents said the 14th century work was bawdy.

"I don't lose anything by not teaching Chaucer, but I think my students do," said teacher Nancy Quinn.

Not to worry.

A called was placed to the University of Chicago.

A Chaucer authority said he would be pleased to instruct Eureka's students while the ban is in effect.

"Not that I would like my name to be used," he said.
