It's 11:30 a.m. in Mr. Weber's second-grade class during a
science lesson. Nine 7-year-olds listen and watch intently as
Philippe Weber explains the five senses using drawings on the
blackboard and a demonstration.
Next door, Mr. Murat is dictating sentences to his third-grade
students, focusing on subject and verb agreement. When Frederic
Murat asks for a volunteer to read aloud the sentences, several eager
hands are raised.
These classroom scenes could be found anywhere - except in this
case, the science and language arts classes are being taught in
French.
Ironically, L'Ecole Francaise of the French International School
of Chicago opened Sept. 5, one day after Sen. Bob Dole ...
