Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis bids to become America's most popular and
influential music educator since Leonard Bernstein when his weekly,
four-part PBS series, "Marsalis on Music," debuts at 8 p.m. Monday on
WTTW-Channel 11.
Taped before youngsters at the Tanglewood Music Center in
Massachusetts, the program employs a tell-and-show approach in
breaking down jazz and classical music into easily understandable
components. Marsalis, who conceived and wrote the hourlong segments
with young people in mind, is joined by members of his jazz band as
well as a young classical orchestra conducted by Seiji Ozawa.
