NEW YORK Cuban President Fidel Castro, making his first United
Nations speech in 16 years, used the occasion of the world body's
50th anniversary to accuse it of becoming a front for a "new
colonialism."
Without mentioning the United States by name, Castro directed
many of his barbs at Washington, its superpower role, its military
might and its 33-year-old trade embargo against Cuba in particular.
Later Sunday, Castro received thunderous applause in Harlem as
he called for an end to the U.S. embargo.
"We will never change, because we were right," he told a wildly
cheering audience of 1,200 inside the Abyssinian Baptist Church. The
