They are the best, the highest-paid, the kings and queens of
securities analysis. And for all their six- and seven-figure
salaries, they can't pick stocks to save their lives.
Securities analysts eagerly await each October the results of
Wall Street's version of the Miss Universe contest: Institutional
Investor magazine's All-America Research Team issue. The list of
"best" analysts, out last month, can make or break careers.
For all the fanfare over the annual coronation, though, the
"All-Stars" leave much to be desired when it comes to picking stocks.
