The whippets win, hands down.
Now that may seem an unnecessarily obscure way to begin a list
of the best theater productions of 1995. But anyone who saw
TurnAround Theatre's sublime production of Brian Friel's "Faith
Healer" will know exactly what I mean.
The show, which became a sellout at its original home in a tiny
storefront last winter, and then returned for a second go-round in
Steppenwolf's Studio, was the best production of the year. Friel's
dense, gorgeously written script, JR Sullivan's pristine direction
and three superb performances (Brad Armacost, Lia Mortensen and Si
Osborne) combined in a perfect synchronicity of talent and
temperament to create an unforgettable piece of ...
