Article: Zoo's New Swamp Has Everything - Except Mosquitoes

Before visitors enter Brookfield Zoo's new $5 million swamp exhibit, they read this description of Georgia's Okefenokee swamp:

"Whoever has beheld this paradise of woods and waters must come away fascinated and spellbound." So wrote biologist Frances Harper.

The zoo is trying to create the same sense of awe with one of its most realistic exhibits yet.

"The Swamp: Wonders of Our Wetlands" opens Friday. At nearly 6,000 square feet, it's the largest indoor swamp exhibit in the world.

Visitors will feel as if they're walking through a real swamp. A fog machine covers the ground with waist-high mist. Speakers broadcast the sounds of barred owls, woodpeckers and tree frogs.
