The name change 17 months ago when Marillac merged with Loyola did nothing to diminish the rivalry with Regina Dominican, located just four blocks away in Wilmette.

Before a school-record crowd of more than 1,100, No. 3 Loyola (18-1, 3-0) used an 11-0 spurt ending the first half and starting the second to defeat visiting Regina 72-57 in the GCAC North on Thursday.

Tied at 24 with just over two minutes to play in the half, the Ramblers closed the period with seven points, four by senior forward Beth Schillen (26 points, nine rebounds).

Schillen and Julie Bumgardner (12) each scored a basket in the opening minute of the second half to give Loyola a 35-24 lead.
