Fashion has crossed over into a parallel universe.
Hush Puppies, the shoes of nerds, geeks, dweebs and pinheads,
are suddenly hip.
The stodgy old comfort footwear of another generation has been
dusted off by the fashion industry and dubbed the must-have shoe of
this season, next season and seasons yet to be.
How hot are Hush Puppies? The company reports sales of more
than 400,000 pairs of Hush Puppies this year, a staggering increase
over the 60,000 sold last year. Next month, the Council of Fashion
Designers of America will give them the 1995 Accessory Award.
Trend-driving designer Anna Sui (she did grunge, mod, schoolgirl
