Article: House OKs Adoption Tax Credit

WASHINGTON The House today approved a bill aimed at encouraging adoptions by giving middle-income families who adopt a child a $5,000 tax credit.

The bill, passed 393-15, also would outlaw "race matching" - the practice of trying to match a child with adoptive parents of the same race. Rep. Susan Molinari (R-N.Y.), the bill's sponsor, said that policy can leave children languishing in foster care even though parents of another race are willing to adopt them.
