Mother Nature still refuses to provide springtime warmth. So
the White Sox are providing their own home heat.
They turned up the mound thermostat Friday against the Yankees
with sizzling performances from starter Kevin Tapani (3-2) and
red-hot closer Roberto Hernandez (11th save, 0.48 ERA) for a 5-2
victory on a night manager Terry Bevington called the coldest of the
year.
"It felt like it anyway," Bevington said of 42-degree
temperatures and blustery northern winds that chilled 15,784 patrons
and pitchers' fingertips.
"Early on it was a combination of the elements and getting a
