PURCHASE, N.Y. It was the same, sad refrain Monday from the same
sad-eyed coach. Only this time, the Knicks' Jeff Van Gundy was more
specific.
He had given his players the day off to lick their wounds -
physical and mental - from Sunday's 94-91 playoff loss to the Bulls
at frenzied Madison Square Garden.
The Knicks had squandered a three-point lead with 76 seconds
remaining. And now they trailed 3-1 in a best-of-seven series that
resumes tonight at the United Center (7 p.m., SportsChannel, 670-AM).
In the Patrick Ewing era, New York is 1-16 in playoff games in
Chicago.
So here was Van Gundy standing against the wall in a hallway
outside the gym at his team's Westchester County ...
