Eugene Maurey, 79, a Southwest Side manufacturer and
philanthropist who gave bicycles to poor children, died Saturday.
Mr. Maurey, of Orland Park, founded Maurey Instrument Corp.,
4555 W. 60th, in 1952. He was president and chief engineer of the
company, a maker of industrial controls, until his death.
"He treated us like we were his children," said Lou Derdzinski,
a Maurey vice president. "He was very paternal and a good guy. He
was very much in tune with the needs of the people in the shop."
As past president of the Chicago Southwest Rotary, he initiated
programs to send clothing and other items to troubled countries such
as Bosnia, Mozambique, Argentina and Paraguay.
