Blues power proved no match for shower power Saturday night, when
a gully washer sent a good portion of the Chicago Blues Festival
crowd running for cover.
But there's nothing like some hot-buttered soul on a rainy night
at Grant Park. And two stalwarts from Ichiban Records' stable of
female singers, Francine Reed and Trudy Lynn, served up an evening of
dynamic vocals.
The Atlanta-based label sent an accomplished touring band, which
got an able assist from the five-piece Chicago Horns, who blew the
roof off Petrillo Music Shell with the terrific brass charts.
Lynn, the more flamboyant of the two divas, had the thoroughly
soaked survivors from the estimated 200,000 Saturday festgoers ...
