Article: The Cabbage Soup Diet: Does It Really Work?

On Day Four of Florida Smith's weeklong diet, she wasn't exactly looking forward to eating only cabbage-vegetable soup, bananas and skim milk.

The first day, she was allowed to eat only the soup and fruit (no bananas).

Day Two was soup and vegetables only (with a big baked potato and butter for dinner). Day Three was soup, fruit and vegetables (but no potato).

For a week, she wasn't allowed to eat bread or drink alcohol or carbonated drinks. But if she didn't cheat, the diet's (unknown) authors promised, Smith would lose 10 to 17 pounds.
