Offer Summer Jobs, Reich Urges
Labor Secretary Robert Reich appealed to private businesses today to
provide summer jobs for disadvantaged youths. Reich told a group of
Washington-area youths and employers that because federal funding is
at the lowest level in 14 years, there are far fewer
government-financed openings than there are applicants. "There are
at least two young people, fully qualified, for every job available,"
he said. "We need private companies to fill the gap."
