BioChem AIDS Drug Outsells AZT MONTREAL - BioChem Pharma Inc. said
Wednesday that U.S. sales of its new AIDS drug 3TC are outpacing
those of Glaxo Wellcome's well-known AZT. BioChem Pharma Chief
Executive Francesco Bellini told the Montreal-based biopharmaceutical
company's annual meeting that U.S. sales of 3TC, sold as Epivir in
the United States, had bypassed sales of AZT, which is sold under the
brand name Retrovir. Bellini said 3TC sales in the United States
were $40 million in the first quarter.
