Theodore Kaczynski, suspected of being the Unabomber, sometimes
would disappear from the scene in Lincoln, Mont., but townsfolk
never thought much of it.
But on one occasion a few years ago a local shopkeeper remarked:
"Gee, Ted. We haven't seen you in four or five months. Where've
you been?
"And he was just amazed that people would react that way. He was
not suspicious - merely surprised that people took note of him," said
Rollie Fisher, owner and editor of the Blackfoot Valley Dispatch.
Fisher also is chairman of the Community Council, a position
equivalent to mayor.
Annie Meuchel, manager of Mom's Drive-In, got used to seeing
Kaczynski riding his bicycle into town from his remote ...
