Article: Pigeons blaze their trails; pedestrians get what's left

My relationship with pigeons has not been good.

I reflected on this while passing a passel of pigeons parading on a Loop sidewalk the other day.

For instance, once I was walking along the lower level of Michigan Avenue wearing a totally new sportcoat, contented with life, maybe even humming tunelessly.

SPLAT!

Something landed on my shoulder. A pigeon had been lurking with his chums on a steel beam overhead, and I just happened to be passing underneath.

From a pigeon's point of view, it was a great hit and would be hard for a dry cleaner to remove.

From my point of view, it was a great leveler, philosophy-wise.

When you're feeling too good about life, a pigeon can let you know ...
