Article: Lewis lobbies to join 400-meter relay team

ATLANTA Carl Lewis turned up the pressure on U.S. coaches Tuesday to let him go for a record 10th gold medal on the 400-meter relay team.

A day after winning the long jump to become just the fourth person with nine Olympic golds, Lewis lobbied to become a late replacement on the relay team.

Though he claimed he was not campaigning for himself, Lewis pointed to an ESPN Internet poll in which 65 percent of respondents said Lewis should be added to the relay team, an overwhelming favorite for gold.
