Bob Dole has a gender gap in Illinois.
Of the 69 Illinois delegates to the Republican National
Convention in San Diego, more than two-thirds are men. There are 20
women in the Illinois delegation, including three among the 10
at-large delegates.
Under the Democratic Party's rules, half of the delegates to the
national convention are women. The Republican National Committee has
a male and female member from each state. But the GOP doesn't
require gender balance in the selection of delegates to the
convention.
"I would like to see more women included. But I would never
want to see the Republican Party marching in lock-step like the
